Why Choose Kim

Why Choose Kim

Do you want to get better sleep?

You’re not alone! Millions of people around the world don’t get the sleep they need. That’s where I come in – I’m a sleep consultant, sleep coach and sleep specialist, and I can help you get the best sleep of your life. At any age.

I work with exhausted families to help solve sleep issues associated with bedtimes, night sleep, naps and insomnia. I take the guess work out of the situation with a sleep evaluation, consultation, and a step-by-step, customised plan tailored for your unique situation. There is no one-size-fits all approach here. During our time together you will receive follow up support and frequent check ins to see how you’re going. This way, if you’re faced with roadblocks, we can course correct together to successfully reach your sleep goals.

Sleep can be complex, and the internet is a minefield of frustration and confusion when you’re looking for sleep help. Let’s cut through the contradictory advice and find a solution that works best for you and your family. Because The road to a better tomorrow always starts with a good night’s sleep.

5 Star Service

Don’t just take my word for it – read some of the “miraculous” reviews from past clients to get an idea of how I can help you too. I’m passionate about my sleep work and my small business, and value all my clients. I care, and that often permeates through my work.

When we work together, you can ask me questions and we’ll talk things through. I can suggest solutions and different options, and I’m also a friendly ear when you need one. There is no judgement here as this is your parenting journey. I’m here to make it easier and share some of it with you. Because parenting is hard. Especially on little sleep!

Extended 1:1 support

For most sleep packages, I will work with you for 4-6 weeks to ensure we see improvements in sleep, and include enough practice to instil healthy sleep habits. I’m all about turning great sleep into a habit so it comes automatically. Sleep is a natural biological function after all. The extra time in my sleep packages allows parents to build confidence, and a child to practice sleeping well, despite any bumps in the road that life may present. And moving forward it ensures you have the tools available to navigate other potential sleep challenges in future.

Steamlined communication

Once we get started, we track sleep using a shared sleep log. This ensures we can see the improvements and celebrate them from day 1. We will also catch up via phone calls and you have unlimited email access during our time together. You can also include additional text support so you can reach out anytime. I am here for you. You don’t need to navigate this alone. I value all my clients and their wins and can’t wait to celebrate great sleep with you too.

No waitlist

I do my best to keep my client load low, taking a maximum of 4 new clients a week, simply so I can honour our time together. Most of my clients are referrals, and I can often fit you in within a couple of weeks of us first chatting (depending on how quickly you also submit your paperwork).

Customized sleep plans

Your child is unique, and so is your family dynamic. Which is why I customise my sleep plans to ensure we consider the actual sleep issue, developmental stages, your family structure, daily tasks and your child’s personality. There really is no one-sized fits all approach or schedule that will work for everyone. My role is to consider your individual needs and parenting preference as I support you to achieve your specific sleep goals. I’m all about great sleep, and ultimately I want you to get more of it! But not at the expense of your values.

Sleep help for all ages

I am the only behavioural sleep specialist in New Zealand that works with children over 4 years of age. Childhood sleep is the best sleep we will ever get, so let’s make sure that your child is receiving all of its benefits.  Before other life stressors get in the way. The older we get, the more complex sleep can become, and there are different factors to consider. I also have my certification in adult sleep and work one-on-one with adults to improve sleep hygiene, realign circadian rhythms, reduce stress, help wean off sleeping pills and set up healthy sleep practices to cure insomnia.

Kim Corley

Hi, I’m Kim

I have a number of roles within the sleep realm. My most prominent is that I am a behavioural sleep specialist for all ages. But you may also see me as “sleep consultant” (especially when working with younger ages) and I’m also a certified sleep coach for adults (and older children) too.

My focus in on sleep, and how to help you and your family get more of it!

My qualifications include certified training in child sleep through The Sleep Sense™ method, along with an adult sleep certification. I hold a BSC in psychology and pharmacology. Plus I have over ten years of experience in health, development, and adult education. With a unique perspective on the field of sleep.

I had an eclectic career prior to sleep, which has included working as a relationship manager for Southern Cross health insurance, taking emergency 111 calls and dispatching for the NZ Police; and being a communications trainer in the Police Communications Centres.

Then after becoming a mum I started learning about what really matters in life!

Our Challenge

I’m a Mum of 2 (I currently have a tween girl and teen boy), and I’ve  followed Sleep Sense for over 14+ years. Ever since my son was a newborn and had his days and nights mixed up (yes, that’s a thing).

But I didn’t train in sleep until all hell broke lose when my son was 7 years of age and suffered from anxiety and panic attacks around the topic of sleep.

No one could help specifically with sleep and school-age children at that point, and to date, I believe I’m still the only behavioural sleep specialist (or sleep consultant) that works with school-age children in New Zealand. My son also has dyslexia (and was later diagnosed with ADHD and ODD), so I needed a method that would work with his unique brain and development. It worked, but wasn’t as streamlined as it is now. I’m happy to say I’ve improved my techniques!

Before turning it around, we tried it all, and even got a dog to sleep in his room with him, so we didn’t have to lay there ourselves anymore. but it didn’t work. Can you relate? So, I researched more and used my psychology training plus information online to devise a plan and help him combat his bedtime anxiety.

During that phase of severe sleep deprivation, my marriage almost dissolved. That’s what lack of sleep can do – it ultimately steals your realtionships and life away. And it’s something we need to take seriously!

After we’d come out the other end is when I considered helping others with sleep issues, because the effects on family life are devastating. And my certified training began. Everything falls apart if you’re not sleeping well. And I don’t want that to happen to you!

Sleep Sense Method

We got through it, so I took up an offer of training directly under Dana in the Sleep Sense Method.

In fact, it was an inheritance from my Nana, who was once a Karitane nurse working with babies, that allowed me to fly to Florida and train. Plus there were 6 months of midnight lectures to keep up with the other side of the world.

I have also attended lectures by overseas sleep specialists who worked with children with learning differences (like ADHD and autism) to ensure my methods were compatible. And I continue to study and keep up to date on sleep research. I’m so good at sleep, I can do it with my eyes closed (joke).

Now, I train new Sleep Sense consultants around the world.

I’ve experienced it, and I know how to solve it!

Almost everything that can go wrong with sleep has happened to our family:

  • Night terrors
  • Sleepwalking (my son and daughter)
  • Cows milk protein intolerance/allergy (daughter)
  • Sleep apnoea due to large tonsils (daughter)
  • Sleep apnoea due to sinus issues and environmental allergies and hay fever (my son).

My husband also has sleep apnea and now uses a c-pap machine (so he no longer snores and is now off the couch haha).

While I work largely with sleep behaviour, I also have the knowledge to screen for medical issues. If you want to climb Mount Everest, you want to do it with a guide who’s been there and made it through. Not one that has only read about it in a book! The same applies to sleep issues.

Let me help you!

I’m a sleep consultant because my children didn’t sleep well. Not because they did! I know what can go wrong with sleep, I’ve experienced it, and I also how to solve it! I don’t judge, as I know how hard parenting is, especially when you’re sleep-deprived. My why is to help you and your children sleep well.

I want to build your confidence as a parent, help your whole family be better rested, and ensure your child gets enough sleep to reach their potential developmentally. Did you know growth hormone is released during sleep? And failure to thrive can be due to sleep deprivation.

There’s nothing better than crawling into your bed with clean sheets at the end of a hard day and sleeping well. It’s the best feeling. And children can experience that too.

If you are missing sleep health, you’re missing one of the fundamental pillars of health. It really is worth improving sleep.
